Coming Events

We get to have our next ultrasound this Friday at 3:30pm. Yay!
Though the peanut probably looks more human then legume these days, I am sure the name will stick.

Another Post

My beautiful wife is up and about today. She just started another semester of law school at the U of Chicago, I honestly have no idea how she does it. This evening she has been a little more active than she has been over the past few weeks. So I am happy and praying that she is starting to come out of her morning/evening sickness. I know that the past few weeks (and by few, I mean like the past 8 or so) have been rough as she has been battling nausea and headaches. I hope she starts to feel better soon.

Missing in Action

So, I disappeared. Well, I at least wish I had disappeared and tried my best to. I THOUGHT week 12 was the turning point. I THOUGHT there was an end to this. I thought wrong. I had a very brief 6 or so hours of feeling ok, only to be hammered by a headache. That lasted for a week. Seriously. It was there when I woke up, and there when I went to sleep. Apparently this happens, but apparently there is still no medicine you can take other then Tylenol. I, for one, needed something a bit stronger. But, then, miraculously, it just went away. I woke up yesterday and it was gone. So, although I am still on anti-nausea medicine and struggling as my school year has started, I feel renewed. Seriously. I feel no better then week 11, but man did week 12 put things in a new perspective.

Baby update: We will get another ultrasound this week (hopefully - time permitting) and we see the doctor again next Thursday. Steve is psyched because I was able to schedule my appt for 6:30 in the evening so he can go, and save those personal vacation days for when baby boy or girl Kowalski arrives (I am NOT so SURE it is a girl, as my dear husband is...). We have both done a drive by of the hospital, but plan on actually going in soon. It is within 15 minutes and looks like a good place to give birth (if there is such a thing).

Steve confirmed I am starting to show a little bit. Exciting because now I can justify wearing pants with so much elastic a little better : )

Beka and the Kowalski grandparents have added to our baby supplies, which is GREAT! I just cannot believe that we will have something so TINY to wear those cute clothes! We started going through Babies R Us to see how much stuff this baby is going to need, it is pretty insane!

Here to hoping week 14 will be better! : )

My First Blog Entry

So the day came, the day I never thought possible, the day I became a blogger! I have really mixed feeling about blogging, I don't totally know why. I guess it always seemed a little odd and dorky...but then again, who am I to call someone else a dork. But alas, I am here, and I am blogging...and I am kinda liking it!

For my first entry I don't have a ton to say, other than I am happy. Very happy, in fact. I am very happy for the first time in a really long time. As I type this there is a party crankin' next door, and all I keep thinking is how annoying and loud they are. And how glad that I am not "there," and I am not just talking about the party.

I mean "there," like needing to go out on a Saturday night, getting wasted, and be an obnoxious jerk. I am exactly where I want to be. I am at home, with the girl of my dreams, and just feeling good about life.

Since January, my life has been on a true upward swing, and I don't want to "jinx" it by talking about it, but here goes (fingers crossed): I started to date my best friend and fell in love, engaged by April, living together in Houston by June, found out we were expecting in July, new job and a new apartment in Chicago in August, and of course getting married on August 31.

In the past 9 months, or so, we have done more and experienced more than most do in a few years stretch. And I could not feel more lucky and blessed. I love my wife beyond belief and I look forward to April and the birth of our daughter...or son, but I am REALLY sure it will be a girl.

Anyway, that's really about all I got. Thanks for reading.

Shhh... Don't tell anyone

Ok, so I have gone back and forth all day about whether or not to even acknowledge this publicly. I am afraid if I do I will jinx something. I almost want to type in a smaller font because it would seem somehow quieter.

But, I just can't contain it. I have to share it with anyone who will listen. The news is that big. I will toss some salt over my shoulder, knock on wood, and go ahead and say it... I think I am getting better.

Blame the Law Firm Internship...

So, in an unexpected twist, I am posting on this blog again. Already. I apologize in advance for bombarding you with the mundane, but blame the law firm I am working at for giving me an office and a computer, but absolutely no work to do. I did something else I never thought I would do, and joined a pregnant mommies message board. I am not really a "joiner" of any sort of clubs or groups, so this was a big step for me. Something about feeling so AWFUL all the time makes me worry that maybe I am doing something wrong or something is wrong with the baby (no matter how many times my doctor tells me that "feeling sick is a sign of a healthy pregnancy and all of the hormones working as they should") and finding a group that suffers from similar symptoms is somehow comforting. Well, I would go to this sight to read the week-by-week info they post about the progress the 'peanut' is making in growing into a healthy baby, and then I would scroll down and read some of the messages other moms were leaving each other, and well, something came over me and I joined. I have taken comfort in knowing others are on medication for nausea, and others are more neurotic about their pregnancy then me (there are seriously 20+ posts in the last 2 days about what a 'normal' heart rate is at this stage) but I have taken the most comfort in knowing that I am not the only person who already looks a little, shall we say, thick. Without the message board, recent events might have been even more traumatic...

So, it happened. A person, inexplicably thought it was appropriate to ask me if I was pregnant. Now, I don't look THAT pregnant, I just look a little thicker around the middle then normal and this person knows me from school, so she is used to seeing me when I just looked, well, average. The kicker of it was, she asked me if I was pregnant on a crowded elevator. Filled to the brim with partners from the law firm I may be working at next year. The law firm where I am not telling people, at least not yet and not without the advice of Career Services. Now she didn't actually get the entire (offending) question out. She just gestured at my midsection (creatively swathed in a mu-mu-esque sheath that could either be trendy or maternity) and asked, "Are you exp.." and before the "ecting" could jump out of her mouth to crowd the elevator further I said, "Yes, I did get married this summer." A little too loudly, and with the color in my face turning deeper and deeper crimson. Not my best effort, but the best I could do at the time. I mean, everyone gains some weight in their first year of marriage, right? So that could have been a somewhat responsive answer to explain her question regarding my weight gain, right?

Sigh.

One more day, then I am done with this internship and can return to sweatpants and t-shirts.

Welcome Family and Friends

Hello! So, I have never done this (or anything like it) before, mainly because I have never had anything all that interesting to say. While this may remain true for a while (probably the next 6.5 months) I have a feeling that come April there will be plenty going on, and someone else worth posting about. Feel free to wait until then to tune in, or humor me for the time being.

So, Steve and I are VERY excited, though this first trimester has been VERY hard. As much as I can complain about the toll it has taken on me, poor Steve has basically had to become a do-it-all husband. He doesn't complain, and he does an amazing job of taking care of both of us, but I am sure he is as ready as I am for this morning sickness (*all day and night sickness*) to go away!

For starters, we have heard a very healthy heartbeat and are looking forward to our next ultrasound (which will happen as soon as one of us can get it scheduled). We are also very greatful for all fo the love and support friends and family have already shown us, and this little peanut that is growing every day. (Technically I believe the baby is lime-sized now, but our last picture left him or her looking like a peanut, and the name has stuck).
