Hey you...

Both of you.

I miss you!

Can't wait until I can be at least 20% mom.

I Wonder...

What will it be like when Daphne is my age: * http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/07/why-women-still-can-t-have-it-all/9020/ *In case the link doesn't work now or in the future. This article came out today entitled "Why Women Still Can't Have it All" in the Atlantic. I have many thoughts and many opinions after reading it, but mainly, now that I am a mother of a daughter, I want to bookmark it so I can remember it and remember now, and remember my thoughts and opinions so that one day, when Daphne is older, we can talk about it.

Guess What??

I eat puffs now.

The doctor said I could start at 7 months, but he also said babies tend to only have a 10% success rate with getting food into their mouths at this age, so clearly he has underestimated me...

I am about battin' a thousand.

I also have a tiny little tooth that is razor-like in its sharpness, but so barely through the gums that it feels almost cute when I mash it against your finger. It will almost certainly soon be a lethal weapon that I will use with recklessness, but for now you think it is cute... except for the fact that it, and all its little friends, are making we wake up in the middle of the night for hours on end. For some reason you have never found that to be adorable.

Accurate

Today is father's day.

Yes, it did mean sleeping in for Steve and breakfast in near bed (I opted to leave Daph at home when we went on a donut run, which meant Steve couldn't sleep in all the way until breakfast was served, but close).

It also meant an explosive diaper (Daph), a broken face (Coop) and a projectile vomit to write home about (Daph)... if one wrote home about such things, or at all.

There is nothing like having kids to remind you what it means to be a parent.

Happy father's day, again, Steve. I am sorry Daphne chose you to vomit on today, but also kind of glad it wasn't me.

**In case anyone is concerned - the explosive diaper is common now that Daphne waits until she is in her bouncy toy to do her business, the broken face was a freak incident where Cooper's mouth met the edge of the table. He recovered quite quickly (though I nearly cried and vomited). And the projectile vomit was almost certainly from over-eating / eating too quickly as opposed to any illness. We are just THAT glamorous up in here.

A Dad Again

I have had over three years to watch Steve be a dad, but I can honestly say, it still amazes me. Even moreso now that I get to watch him be a dad with both Coop and Daph.

They are so lucky.

No one can dress Daphne in such imaginative and colorful frocks.

No one draws better tank engines, or so accurately captures the mischievousness of the troublesome trucks.

No one can carry such a heavy load (aka Daphne) while keeping a house running.

No one can announce the day's many jobs in such a spot on Sir Topham Hat voice.

No one lights up Daph's face like when you walk into the room.

Thank you, Steve, for being the all-star Dad your children will never forget, and are so blessed to know.

Happy day to you, featuring the two.

We Got a Few Decent Ones, Though...

The Outtakes

I laid down with Daphne to get create another installation of mommy-daughter floor photos, starting with our "mean face" - the one she makes when she is really happy and snorts a little:

She kept flailing and I caught more of me in this then her, which is never the intention... especially as her mean face is far cuter then mine...

So then I started making silly faces and trying to get her to pretty smile, which she did, but of course, I cannot get my face and finger to communicate and caught myself mid funny face (where it appears I have a wonk-eye, which I don't think I do:

I think Daphne got mad at me for ruining her beauty shot:

By then Cooper came in and needed to join in, clearly, and that's when Daphne split - knowing I was briefly distracted, she made a break for the wipes...

Chub-a-licious!

Today was Daphne's belated six month appointment (after canceling the originally scheduled appointment last week and paying the same-day cancellation fee and rescheduling under the assumption that this week would HAVE to be better when it so... was NOT).

She is a slight 19 pounds 6 ounces.

She is 26.5 inches

And she is pretty much perfect.

She got 3 shots in her thighs, and was a TROOPER - she didn't even flinch with the first one, was a little like "What the _____?" with the second, but quieted down so quickly that the third seemed truly unkind and she was like "OH NO YOU DID NOT!" but then once the mean lady with the pokey things left, she was like "Phew, now that she is gone we can go about our business without fear for the safety of our thighs. Now, pass me my purse (teether toy) and let's roll."

Only she is still having some trouble with rolling from front to back...
